This statue of China's first Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, sits at the foot of the hills leading towards the Shanhaiguan pass. This was a strategic pass in China's defense against the enemies of the north. Emperor Qin was only 23 years old at the start of his 15 year reign. He was also responsible for the famous standing army of terracotta soldiers guarding his tomb in Xian.
