Description:
Rooftop of an Old Fort along the Great Wall --- At the foot of the hill the Wall connected with an ancient fort that was being restored by a handful of workers. An open wooden gate provided entrance, where every building looked exactly like part of the fort. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, 1966-78, the Great Wall was seen as a sign of despotism, and sadly Chairman Mao encouraged the people to take bricks from it to use in their farms and homes. The fort appeared to be better than halfway restored, but finding food was top priority and my nose was leading me hastily down the street.
