Papua New Guinea
The following portraits were taken during a three-month bike journey into the Central Highlands of this bizarre Pacific Island Nation, plus a month of biking around the Ifugao region of Luzon Island in the Philippines. Other than the people, and their unique tribal culture, there was little else to photograph. No stores, no restaurants, no hotels, no medicine, no electricity, no running water, no toilets, just dense jungle-covered mountains. Below each photo is a short timeline of this journey, trying to describe the indescribable. All images were taken in the 1980s.
